Share a file or folder

Give colleagues access, or make a link for people outside your team.

There are two kinds of sharing: with people in your team, and with a link anyone can open.

Share with your team

  1. Choose the ... button on a file or folder and pick Share. For the folder you are inside, choose Manage, then Share this folder.
  2. On the Team members tab, pick a person or group under Share with.
  3. Choose a role: Viewer, Commenter, Editor or Organizer. Add a message if you like.
  4. Choose Share.

They get a notification, and the item appears in their Shared with Me. The list under the form shows who has access; choose Remove to take it back.

Links let people outside your team open an item without signing in to Orbitly.

  1. In the share window, open the External links tab.
  2. Choose a Link type: Share link, Download link or Embed code.
  3. Set Access: View, Edit, or Upload only (folders only).
  4. Optionally add a Password (at least 6 characters), an Expires on date, a Download limit, or email addresses in Send to (emails). WorkDrive emails the link to those addresses.
  5. Choose the options you want: Allow download, Watermark previews, Verify recipients by email code.
  6. Choose Create link.

Each link appears in the list below with Copy and Revoke buttons, plus a note of its settings. Revoke stops it working straight away.

If you turn on Verify recipients by email code, visitors enter their email address and a 6-digit code before they can open the item. When you listed addresses in Send to (emails), only those addresses can get a code.

Two settings can block it. You will see a message such as that external sharing is turned off for your team, or for this team folder.

Files that are quarantined by the safety scan cannot be shared.

Collect files instead

If you want people to send files to you, a file collection is simpler than an upload link. See Collect files from other people.
