Use the Gantt chart
See tasks as bars on a timeline, with dependencies and today's date.
The Gantt tab draws each task as a bar from its start date to its due date. Use it to check the plan, spot overlaps, and see which tasks wait on others.
What the chart shows
- One row per task, with the reference and title on the left.
- A bar from the task's Start to its Due date. A task with only one date shows a short bar on that day.
- Bar colour follows status: grey for To do, purple for In progress, amber for In review, green for Done.
- A lighter shade inside the bar shows how many subtasks are done.
- A diamond for tasks whose Type is Milestone.
- An arrow from one task to another when the second Waits for the first.
- A red line for today.
Issues are not drawn here. They stay on the Issues tab.
Make tasks appear
A task only shows if it has a Start or Due date. Tasks with no dates are left out, and a note above the chart says how many. Open a task, set the dates, and choose Save.
Zoom
Use the Zoom menu above the chart. Fit to range shows everything at once. Months, Weeks and Days zoom in. Scroll sideways inside the chart for long plans.
Add a dependency
- Open a task and find Waits for.
- Under Choose a task..., pick the task that has to finish first.
- Choose Add.
If the new order would put this task before the one it waits for, Projects moves this task later and shows a message naming what moved. The arrow then appears on the chart.
Open a task from the chart
Click a bar or its row to open the task and edit it. Changes to dates show on the chart after you save.
